Our Story

A church for the block, from the block.

How It All Started

In 2017, Pastor Deon Alexander walked into Brooklyn with a simple, stubborn belief: that the church should actually look like the neighborhood it's in. Not a sanitized version of it. Not a church for a certain kind of person. A church for everyone on the block — every language, every background, every story.

So he planted The Gathering at 245 Myrtle Avenue, right in the middle of one of the most dynamic, diverse zip codes in the country. No polish. No pretense. Just real people, real worship, and preaching that doesn't flinch from the hard stuff.

Seven years in, The Gathering is still that. Urban-eclectic worship that crosses cultures. A room full of faces from every corner of the world. Sermons that hit different because they're built for real life — not a Sunday performance. We're non-denominational by design, because no single tradition owns the whole story of what God is doing.

We gather Sundays at 11 AM and 6 PM. Come as you are. Leave different.

Our Heart

What We Live By

A church for the block, from the block — where every language, every background, every story has a seat at the table.

Radical Welcome

Everyone gets a seat — no exceptions, no asterisks. The Gathering was built to reflect the full diversity of Brooklyn, and we take that seriously.

Truth That Lands

We preach the Word straight — no fluff, no flinching. Real life deserves real answers, and we believe the Gospel is big enough to handle both.

Worship Without Walls

Our worship crosses cultures and genres because God doesn't belong to one sound. Expect something that moves you — and might surprise you.

Rooted in Community

We're not a Sunday-only church. From First Table dinners to House Churches, we're built for the kind of community that goes the distance.

For the Block

We exist to serve the neighborhood we're in — not just the people inside our walls. The street outside is part of our congregation.

Real Discipleship

Faith isn't a moment — it's a journey. The Gathering is committed to walking with people as they grow, question, stumble, and keep going.

Our Beliefs

What We Believe

We believe in one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Three persons, one essence, fully present and active in the world today. God isn't distant or disinterested; he's the most real thing there is.

We believe Jesus is fully God and fully human — born, lived, died, and rose again. His resurrection isn't a metaphor; it's the hinge on which everything turns. We're building our lives on that.

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God — authoritative, alive, and still speaking. We read it as real people asking real questions, and it keeps holding up.

We believe salvation is a gift — not earned, not bought, not achieved. It comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Everyone starts in the same place, and everyone is invited.

We believe the Holy Spirit is present and active right now — guiding, convicting, empowering, and showing up in ways that still catch us off guard. We don't put a ceiling on what God can do.

We believe the church isn't a building — it's a people. The Gathering exists to be a community where the full spectrum of humanity comes together around something bigger than all of us.

We believe this life isn't the whole story. There's a resurrection coming, a restoration of all things, and a future that makes the present worth fighting for. Hope isn't wishful thinking — it's our foundation.
